St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish just celebrated its 90th Anniversary! We are a community that is always ready to welcome anyone seeking to make our parish their own. Our prayer is centered on the liturgical life of the Church, and as a community, we seek to live and grow in a spirituality of communion. In fact, at the eve of the new millennium, St. Pope John Paul II wrote the Apostolic Letter entitled Novo Millennio Ineunte (At the Eve of the New Millennium) in which he said: “To make the Church the home and the school of communion is truly fundamental for the efficacy of every commitment to evangelization, inasmuch as it reveals the deepest yearning of the Father: that all his sons live as brothers; and it reveals the will of Christ, ‘that all of them may be one’; and it reveals the dynamism of the Holy Spirit, its free and liberating force of attraction…”
I as Pastor, and we as a parish constantly strive to be this reality.
In imitation of our Blessed Mother Mary, Stella Maris, who is the guiding star to seafarers disoriented at sea, may St. Mary Star of the Sea parish be that presence of Mary guiding all of us always closer to one another so that we may have Christ her Son among us (Mt. 18:20), and like her, give him to the world.
